Sweet Dreams
For the last couple of years, my hubby has been asking for a quilt to go onto our bed. All of his siblings and their spouses received a personalized quilt from me for Christmas over the last 5 - 6 years——check out Quilty Archives to look at these past quilts. Can you say FOMO?! Hah! It took 2 years, but he finally decided on a design and a blue that he loves. He wanted a big design to maximize the space of the bed. I have had to hustle to get it finished over the last few weeks.
It’s actually a good thing that we’re going this route now. Our current, mass-produced, double-sided bedding has seen better days…
I can’t believe it’s finally here! Grandma’s Featherbed is ready for you to enjoy. It’s been a crazy couple of weeks in preparation for her release. Want to learn a little bit more about her? She is comprised of 3 different blocks—chevrons, quarter square triangles and a conglomeration of half square triangles. Each finished block measures to be 24” x 24”. She comes in 3 sizes—twin, queen & king.
Personally, we have a king sized bed. Holy smokes was it an undertaking. I definitely wondered at different times if I bit off more than I could chew. There were hundreds of pieces in need of trimming. Web-piecing saved my bacon when assembling the each 9 block.
I think the binding is my absolute favorite part. I saw a reel awhile back where this chica had the entire binding on the back side of her quilt. Since it’s going to be our bedspread, I wanted it to be as close-looking to a comforter as possible. It took some finagling, but I did it and I love it!
I sure hope the hubby loves it for all that it’s worth. Haha when I pinned the binding down so it lied flat, we put it on the bed to see what it would look like. The hubby was ready to use it right then and there. He did ask.. I in turn asked if he wanted to sleep with pins at night. Hah! Obviously, he had the bright idea to say no. Hahah!
I’m in love with the end result! I hope you enjoy it too.
Isn’t she beautiful? I know she’d make a great addition to your home.
